Scout Precision Shooting school by Outfitter Services
As a professional hunting guide, I want to make sure that my clients are fully prepared for the hunt ahead. One aspect that often gets overlooked is the shooting proficiency of the hunter. While most shots are taken at a range of less than 300 yards while laying in the prone position, it’s important to be prepared for long-range shots of up to 800 yards, especially if the opportunity presents itself.
Moreover, hunting terrain can be unpredictable, and sometimes you may need to take shots off natural rock outcroppings. It may seem daunting, but with the right training and preparation, you can be confident in your ability to take a clean and ethical shot.
To make sure you’re ready, I recommend that your rifle should be zeroed in at 200 yards. This is a common zero distance that works well for most hunting situations.
However, it’s important to note that simply having the right gear is not enough to guarantee success. It’s equally important to be comfortable and proficient with your equipment. I highly recommend taking shooting courses to prepare for your hunt. Two courses that I personally recommend are the NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course and the Precision Rifle 1 course offered by Magpul CORE.
The NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course covers the fundamentals of rifle shooting, including safety, marksmanship principles, and shooting positions. This course is a great starting point for anyone who wants to improve their shooting skills.
The Precision Rifle 1 course offered by Magpul CORE is designed for individuals who want to take their long-range shooting skills to the next level. This course covers topics such as ballistics, wind reading, and positional shooting.
By taking these courses, you’ll not only improve your shooting skills but also gain a better understanding of your rifle and its capabilities. This knowledge and confidence will translate into better performance in the field and ultimately, a more successful hunt.
